Upcoming Course on Tarot- The Fool's Calling, New Writing, Anticipation, Writing Update, & so much more!
New Creative Nonfiction: The Coyote’s Journey
Do you, like me, play the “If I had a million dollars…..” game? What would you do with the money if you won the lottery (after taxes)? These days, a million dollars doesn’t seem like much, does it? It isn’t. I’d share the money with my family and friends, and it would be gone – poof!
But what if I took the fantasy further, and had all the money I could possibly want? What would I do? Feed and house the unhoused? Support education around the globe for everyone? Take care of the elderly? All of these, of course, and more.
Most of all, I’d save trees.
Without trees, there is no us. Without trees, there is no life on Earth. If I could, I’d buy every swath of forested land I could around the globe, and I’d leave that land just as it is.
On my drive to a nearby city, I pass acres and acres of clearcut land where houses, apartments, and businesses are being built at breakneck speed. I sometimes wonder if the people who are responsible for all that desecration of land have an ounce of care for the long-term effects on natural habitats and Mother Earth herself?
The smell of pine sap from those felled trees makes me gag.
My pondering about pine trees, and sighting coyotes in the maritime forest in which I live, prompted my most recent creative nonfiction work. “The Coyote’s Journey” dropped last week in Salvation South, an online publication that I love. Here’s the link:

I so hope you’ll subscribe to Salvation South. The work this wonderful publication is doing to bring about meaningful, hopeful dialogue is so worth supporting. Chuck Reece, editor, describes Salvation South this way: “We launched this publication for every writer and reader who wants to celebrate the culture of the American South and to see beyond its historical baggage and current divisions.”
And speaking of trees and a Writers-in-Residence Program ……
I’m so honored to have been awarded a week-long stay in the Writers-in-Residency program at lovely Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines, NC. I’ll be tucked away in a lovely bedroom in this house, writing, writing, writing.
I also will spend time with the oldest known living longleaf pine tree. At about 470 years old, Old Tree is the star of the Boyd Tract at Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve. I hope I will be able to gently place my hand on its bark and say “thank you.”
The Fool’s Calling: A Self-Paced Tarot Course About You!
Are you always seeking new ways of learning about yourself and the world around you? For hundreds of years, Tarot symbols have been a gathering place for world beliefs, and a source through which we can discover common ground among us and within aspects of ourselves. Tarot offers an exploration of myths and legends, and of cultures and beliefs, that are as old as time and as modern as this moment. For many years, the symbols of Tarot have guided my travel to the world around me, and to myself.
I am overwhelmed with how many of you have registered for this upcoming self-paced course. I hope YOU will join us on this quest!
The Fool's Calling:
Your Personal Myths and Archetypes in Arcane Symbols
This course launches on April 1, 2024.
THIS is the in-depth, self-paced Tarot course you requested me to create!
Venture deeply with me into the myths, legends, beliefs, and cultures of Tarot in this exciting self-paced 38-week course! Tarot wisdom guides your path to your deepest self, while this esoteric knowledge hides in plain sight on the 78 keys of traditional Tarot.
NEW to Tarot? No problem! This course lays the foundation for a deep exploration of the knowledge that supports the meaning of Tarot. This course is not a course in divination or using intuitive skills but rather grounds you in the underpinnings of the time-honored meanings of the keys.
Here are some questions this course answers:
Why on some keys do we see Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman symbols? How do they work together?
How does knowing the myths related to the keys enhance my understanding of symbols on the keys?
Why do some symbols, such as flowers, pillars, and feathers, repeat on various keys?
What do landscapes and buildings tell us about our journey through Tarot?
What do the symbols teach me about myself?
AND SO MUCH MORE!

Anticipation
So much is coming! Spring arrives on March 19 in the Northern Hemisphere (Fall in the Southern Hemisphere), the Storm Moon is full in the sign of Libra on March 25. Easter is March 31, early this year. A total solar eclipse occurs across parts of Mexico, the United States, and Canada on April 8.
Both the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox is a day of balance. Legend says that you can, at the exact moment the sun crosses the equator on the Equinox, stand an egg on its end. Metaphorically, both the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox offer us transition times, times to prepare to plant or harvest that which matters in our lives.
The Storm Moon, like all full moons, has various names in various traditions. It’s also called the Worm Moon and Pink Moon, among others. The sun will be in Aries on the day of the full moon, while the moon is full in the opposite sign, Libra. Once again, we see the concept of balance playing out near the end of March.
Easter, of course, is a time to remember that life is eternal, and there is always hope. On Easter morning, as I have every Easter morning since 1971, I will play the soundtrack to “Godspell” as loud as I can, singing the words to every song!
I mentioned in my last newsletter that I’m watching, waiting, and hoping for signs of the transition to spring. My sign has arrived: my car is covered in oak pollen. Owls called in the maritime forest again last week! When Charlie the Great Blue Heron arrives on my neighbor’s dock, I’ll know spring is really coming.

Just One More Thing Before You Go
May the changing season bring joy to your heart and light to your life. May the full moon guide your path to yourself.
Thank you!
I just finished Barbara Kingsolver’s book Prodigal Summer recently and your piece on coyotes carries the same passion she has for them. Thank you!
One more thing. I've GOT to find out more about the residency at Weymouth Woods. I want to follow your footsteps there.
