Time Between Time- September 2023
Autumn and Harvests, Upcoming Course, Meditation, Tarot of the Month, Writing Update, & so much more!
Good afternoon!
I am coming to life! Autumn is the gift Mother Nature gives me for making it through the oppressive heat and humidity of summer. I am more awake, more in tune with the natural world around me, as we approach the Equinox. How about you? With lots of celestial events coming up, now might be a good time to ask yourself how you connect with the changing seasons.
What a busy time is coming if you pay attention to astrological and world events! Here’s a list. Keep reading to see how they might affect you, and some things you can do to connect to these events more deeply.
September 14: Moon was new in Virgo
We continue to stay in new moon energy for a day or so after the moon is new.
September 15: Mercury goes direct (whew! You may speak now!)
September 21: International Day of Peace
September 23: Autumnal Equinox/Vernal Equinox (Northern/Southern Hemisphere)
Sun enters Libra
Celtic harvest holiday of Mabon
September 29: Moon is full in Aries
Called the Harvest Moon in my tradition
the fourth and final Supermoon of the year
The Jewish harvest holiday of Sukkot begins at sundown
In the energy of the New Moon, and as the Moon begins to wax toward fullness, we can make clear decisions about what we want to bring into our lives. This Virgo New Moon invites us to slow down, think things through carefully, and weigh what truly matters as we go forward in our lives. It’s the perfect time to set intentions and do what we need to bring them to fruition.
Poor Mercury! Such a bad rap Mercury in Retrograde gets, but keep in mind that other planets retrograde as well. However, now is the time when we’re free to speak our truth kindly and clearly.
On September 21 each year, my local chapter of Grandmothers for Peace gathers our community in the evening at a park to talk and sing and work for peace. I am honored to be a member of this international organization. You don’t have to be a grandmother or female to join. If you don’t have a Peace Day celebration where you live, now would be a good time to start one! Here’s a link with information and ideas:

The Autumnal Equinox is my favorite day of the year! To my Libra soul, entering into my birth sign makes me so happy, and reminds me to always seek balance in my life (that’s so hard). I love celebrating Mabon, the second of the three harvest celebrations in the Celtic tradition. It’s time for pumpkin spice everything, apple everything, and fall decorations everywhere!
This day of the Vernal Equinox, for my Southern Hemisphere friends, is the day the wheel turns toward Spring. May it herald a time of hope, and of planting that which feeds your spirit.
The Harvest Supermoon, gigantic in the sky this year, reminds us of the abundant blessings we’ve received, and for which I will offer deep gratitude.
Holidays and rituals such as those created on Mabon and Sukkot, reinforce my deep belief that we really are all related, and the spinning of the year’s wheel is one way in which we are always connected. Harvest offerings, as well as stocking up for the harsh winter to come, are ways in which we can honor the turning of the wheel and each other.
Here's a very simple ritual to honor the turning of the year’s wheel, whether you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. Try it any time during the changing of the season:
- Light a candle, maybe some incense
- Sit quietly, and just breathe for a few moments.
- Slowly, mindfully, eat small bites of a piece of seasonal fruit
- With each bite, offer up gratitude for a gift in your life.
- When you have finished eating the fruit, offer up one action you will take for good in the world.
- Sit quietly, and just breathe for a few moments
- Gently extinguish the candle.

Tarot Key of the Month: The Empress and Her Green Calcite
The Empress Key represents Mother Earth and Earth Mother. As Mother Earth, she embodies the fecundity and fertility of the planet. She is seated in a fertile garden of ripe wheat, sacred to the Egyptian goddess Isis, surrounded by a stream of consciousness running through a stand of cypress trees, sacred to the Roman goddess Venus. Her headdress of myrtle, her necklace of pearls, and her heart-shaped shield reinforce her connections to Venus, the goddess of love.
As Earth Mother, beneath her gown of white for purity of thought and red for passion, she is pregnant with esoteric knowledge, the ability to teach and to nurture us as we move forward on our path to enlightenment. She is the active force that both supports us and encourages us to move more deeply into our connection with the divine.
The Empress is the Moon in her fullness.
Green Calcite is a teaching, nurturing stone. It aids you in connecting deeply with nature, as does The Empress. Green Calcite is a fertility stone, not only aiding with physical pregnancy, but with the development and creation of new thought, with a new way of being receptive to ideas and concepts that in the past have seemed foreign, obscure, or unknown to you.
Green calcite should be cleaned regularly.
Green Calcite vibrates to number 8.
