Fallow Time- November 2021
Dear ,
YOU are a beacon of light in the world and you are on my gratitude prayer list every day! If you read this newsletter and listen to our podcast, then you know that I am deeply committed to connection, and I am grateful for my connection with you. As we enter this traditional time of giving thanks, I want you to know how much I appreciate you!
I keep a prayer list covered by a rose quartz or amethyst pyramid on my altar. At Samhain, as the Wheel turned toward the new year in my tradition, I rewrote the list, which grows with each passing day. I often find myself praying for time, for myself, and for others.
For me, autumn is a fallow time. Just as a farmer allows fields to rest after the harvest, giving the soil time to be replenished, I, too, have given myself permission to rest, to allow ideas to develop and to soon take root. October and November have been a time of resting, a time of rejuvenating my energies in preparation for the days ahead.

Book of the Month
Wherever I travel, The Art of Pilgrimage: A Seeker’s Guide to Making Travel Sacred goes with me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read it. It’s marked in various ink colors, and my underlinings are dated to remind me of when a particular passage spoke to me in a certain way it had not before.
This amazing book has taught me – more than once – that travel can be sacred, whether I’m flying to another country, or wandering around my back yard, or going to the grocery store, or walking on the beach. Or just sitting, physically going nowhere, yet traveling light-years away in my mind and heart.
Walking the labyrinth at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco was one of the most powerful ways in which I learned that deep travel is always a sacred pilgrimage to my own internal landscape. That circuitous journey brought me back to myself in a profound way that I still can’t put into words. It was a step in a spiritual awakening that has been ongoing for many years, and which I hope never ends.
Cousineau suggests that a pilgrimage, an awakening, is undertaken, and returned from, “with gratitude in your satchel and the compassion for all you see as your touchstone.”
May your satchel be filled.
