When It's Time- April 2021
Dear ,
“Where do I start?” Folks who feel they’re having a “spiritual awakening” ask me this question often. As Mother Earth herself is awakening here in the Northern Hemisphere, I thought now would be a good time to explore this question.
You are a seed. You’ve been planted for longer than you can imagine, deep within the darkest of soils, awaiting the exact moment to begin your push toward the light and warmth that call you forth. What have you been doing, down there in the Earth, while you’ve waited? What has been happening on Earth’s surface while you’ve been cocooned in the womb of the Earth? What has the soil around you needed in order to provide exactly the right conditions for you to begin your journey skyward?
The sprouting process is difficult. Watching those fast-motion videos of a seed sending out roots, pushing against hard soil, struggling toward the surface reminds me of just how much work it takes to grow spiritually.
Suddenly, you’re above ground and nearly blinded by the light and heat. Now there are a zillion other conditions that need to be met in order for you to grow and become who you’re meant to be. It’s a new world up here, filled with sights and sounds, even smells and tastes, that are new. While it’s exciting, some days it seems it would have been safer to stay in the dark. And yet, you persist.
You persist in learning a new language (just what are the Akashic Records? Do I have an aura? What does it mean to truly discern information? How do I trust my guides and my own intuition? What is an altar, really?).
You persist in making choices. Which path is meant for you? How do you know? What do you leave behind? You’re like a kid in a candy store. So much to learn, to explore. Which to choose first? Is there a logical sequence to the growth process?
Yes. Yes, there are clear steps along the path, at least there have been for me. I’d be honored to share with you what I’ve learned, and offer suggestions to you that may help you. See below for information on my NEW upcoming course Awakening to Spirit: Discover the Next Steps in Your Journey.
Growing can be difficult. Changing can be hard, but there is joy and hope. Becoming awakened is a process, an adventure, and it takes time and effort. I am honored to walk along your path with you for a while, and I thank you for walking with me on mine.

Tarot Key for the Month:
Plants of Tarot - Earth Day and Beltane Musings
As we approach Earth Day and Beltane, I’ve been thinking about the richness of plant symbols in Tarot. White and red roses, lilies, pomegranates, palm trees, irises, sunflowers, wheat, cypress trees, myrtles, and unnamed flowers and trees appear on many keys throughout Tarot. Each plant (and its color) has a specific meaning that enhances the meaning of the key on which it appears.
For example, The Empress represents, among other traits, manifestation and fruition of hopes and dreams. She has transitioned from the maiden High Priestess to the mother giving birth to new life, new thought, and a new way of being in the world. Depicted on this key are plants sacred to Isis and Venus, along with red roses of passion and action. She is the Divine Feminine and the Goddess in many forms. She is Mother Earth, bursting with new life.
Paying attention to the plants depicted on keys enhances and informs how we read the keys. On The Magician, we see the red roses of desire balanced with the white lilies of abstract thought. To answer his calling, The Magician needs both. Pomegranates depicted on The High Priestess key tell us the story of Persephone’s annual sojourn to and from the underworld, and, along with the palms shown on the pillars, reminds of the need for balance of female and male energies.
One of the overarching themes of Tarot is balance, which easily can be seen in the plant symbols in the keys. So much of Tarot spurs us toward seeking, and finding, balance in our lives. The same is true of Earth Day, when we are acutely aware of the need for balance on Mother Earth. The same is true of Beltane, the holiday on May 1 in the Wheel of the Year that celebrates the fertilizing of the fields as dancers weave brightly colored ribbons around the May Pole in a dance of balance and union.
May you walk this day, and every day, in balance.
