Promises of Spring- March 2021
Dear ,
I’m as jumpy as a Lunar Hare right now – I’m so ready for the shift of energy that Spring brings! Vernal Equinox/Ostara is on its way in the Northern Hemisphere. As I write this, the sun is shining, the wind has died down, and the sand is warm beneath my bare feet. Life is looking up!
I love the legends of the Lunar Hare, which can be found in many world cultures and myths, from Rome and Greece to Norse and Celtic tales, to modern stories such as Alice in Wonderland.
My favorite Lunar Hare stories come from the Celts. The Celts believed that the goddess Eostre's favorite animal and attendant spirit was the hare. The hare represented fertility and growth and was associated with the Moon. Eostre changed into a hare at the full Moon. The hare was sacred to the White Goddess - the Earth Mother - and as such was considered to be a royal animal.
I hope we all can share in the rambunctious joy of the Lunar Hare as we approach the changing season. I hope you are connecting to the budding Earth and life renewing itself. Keep reading for suggestions to help you!

Writing Wild: Women Poets, Ramblers, and
Mavericks Who Shape How We See the Natural World
by Kathryn Aalto
For many years I have considered myself an ecofeminist, a term I first learned from Starhawk in her work that describes our attempt to save the world around us through a deep, abiding relationship with the divine feminine in many forms. I have studied Starhawk’s work and that of other women environmentalists such as Rachel Carson, Mary Oliver, Annie Dillard, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Janisse Ray, and Helen Macdonald, among others. I thought I was well-versed in that world.
I was wrong. The above women are a few of the many women showcased in this lovely book, along with others about whom I have known nothing, and whose work I’ve never read – and I know there are many others who are not included. I intend to rectify that.
Aalto’s Writing Wild “celebrates 25 women whose influential writing helps deepen our connection to the natural world. These inspiring wordsmiths are scholars, spiritual seekers, conservationists, scientists, novelists, and explorers… Part travel essay, literary biography, and cultural history, Writing Wild encourages a new generation of women to pick up their pens, head outdoors, and start writing wild,” says the back cover blurb.
Now, as Mother Earth awakens in the Northern Hemisphere, and you’re itching to get your hands in dirt, it’s a great time to spend your evenings with a cup of tea and women whose writings share your deep and abiding connection to the world around you.
Your Soul Connections with the Changing Season
Whether you anticipate the end of winter or the end of summer, now is a great time to clear the cobwebs of the current season and move with deep intention into the next. No matter in which hemisphere you live, the suggestions below can help you to welcome the shifting energy both around and within you:
1. Pay attention to your sleeping habits. For example, if awakening to watch the sunrise is a change you’d like to make, as we transition to daylight saving time would be a good time to change your sleeping patterns. Use this time for reflection or meditation or a daily Salutation to the Sun practice.
2. Pay attention to how you nourish your body. As new seasonal foods become available, experiment with new recipes. Practice mindful eating and watch what happens!
3. Pay attention to how you nourish your mind. Be aware of the news you absorb, the music you listen to, television programs you watch, books you read. Allow only that which is for your highest good to enter your energy field for a while, and see what happens!
4. Pay attention to the natural world around you. With what four-legged and winged people do you share space? What is changing on the earth around you? Now would be a great time to get your hands in the dirt and connect to Mother Earth.
Let me know what you’re doing and how it’s working!

PsychicTeachers Witches of the Shore
JUST ONE MORE THING BEFORE YOU GO:
It’s been a year, hasn’t it? If you’re like me, you often think of this past year as really beginning in mid-March 2020, when our vocabulary shifted so radically to words many of us had never before heard; when we suddenly were afraid to hug people we love, or grocery shop, or even leave our homes.
Now that I’ve been fully vaccinated, and feeling hopeful as vaccine distribution seems to be more widespread (yes, there’s still much work to be done, I know), but we’re getting better. I’m becoming more hopeful.
The road ahead is still long, and the work I need to do on myself never ends, but I have hope. Each afternoon as I watch the sun set over the water, I see it move just a little in the sky, heading ever so slightly toward its place for the Vernal Equinox, when the world stands, for just a moment in balance.
Please know how honored I am for my connection with you!
