Spiraling To Yourself

In this August 2020 newsletter, I need to share with you the connection I’m having right now to a symbol that has been part of my spiritual journey for as long as I can remember: the spiral. In meditation, in the sand and sea and marshes around me, in my home, and in the changing of the season, the spiral nudged me again recently, reminding me to trust in the three-dimensional walk we all take.
At left is a Moon shell (called by various names in various locations) that has been with me since I was nine years old. Shells were my first introduction to the mystical world of sacred geometry. I am still fascinated by the growth patterns of shells created by beings who live in them, of how they navigate their world, and the lessons they teach us about ourselves.
I’ve learned that every time I spiral around to a place I’ve been before – a physical place, an emotional or spiritual place – I see with new eyes. I hear new words and learn new lessons. I feel differently. I believe these are some of the gifts that spirals give us.
I need to remember that spirals teach me how to either continue to evolve on the path that’s meant for me or how to leave a spiraling pattern that is not for my highest good. Spirals teach me to choose.
As you may know, I have a deep connection to Mary Magdalene and I’ve been meditating with her energy for several years now. She, too, spirals around and around with lessons I need to learn. Below are her comments on spirals in these troubled times:
“We’ve spoken to you many times about spirals, about how all creation moves in spirals, coming around and around again to the same place, with new, different lessons learned each time. Now, in this age, we are cycling through a time of great upheaval. We are spiraling through what feels cataclysmic. We remind you that, as life changes and dies away, new life arises. Such times are painful and frightening. Do not be afraid, beloved daughter. The outcome, the growth, will be beyond far more beautiful than what you could possibly ever imagine. The spiral will continue to spin.”
So in this in-between time as we spiral from one harvest celebration and the next, as one season spins to the next, may you spin gently as you continue to evolve on the great gift-giving spiral.

Crystal for the Month: Azurite and Malachite
I love this stone. It’s often called the “Earth” stone because, when tumbled into a sphere shape, it resembles a globe. One of its tasks in the mineral kingdom is to bring people together in harmony.
Azurite/Malachite also is an excellent meditation stone. Crystalologist Melody says that meditating with this stone helps one to be “reborn into the light.” This stone aids us in learning flexibility – how to bend and flow with situations and circumstances around us.
Melody says this is one of the most important stones to have in your collection. It facilitates the reconstruction of oneself as one is undergoing emotional and spiritual transformation.
It offers comfort when you’re going through physical challenges and promotes happiness. It is a stone that helps reduce stress.
Get a piece – small pieces aren’t very expensive – and try meditating with it. Carry it in your left pocket to use as a “worry” stone when you’re stressed. Carry it in your right pocket to use as a conduit to help you send out loving-kindness to the world.
Tarot Key for the Month: Ace of Wands
In all four suits of the Minor Arcana, Aces represent new beginnings. Since the suit of Wands represents new opportunities for growth, particularly in terms of work and learning, the Ace of Wands basically represents new opportunities to explore creative, lucrative endeavors.
But there is more to this key than what we see at first glance (that’s true with every Tarot key!). That hand coming out of the clouds denotes gifts from Spirit. Notice the falling Hebrew Yods – representing spirit descending into matter. Yods appear throughout the keys, and signify that there is always assistance from a higher power if we would but pay attention to the signs we receive, and, more importantly, ask for help. And pay attention to the landscape – see the mountains in the background? Even with gifts given to us from Spirit, we must climb our own mountains and make our own choices.
The gifts that the Aces offer only arrive when we are vibrating with the energy of spirit. Try meditating with this card and ask for clarity of your desires and intentions. Remember to write down the information that comes to you!

JUST ONE MORE THING BEFORE YOU GO:
We are in the “Dog Days” of summer where I live. It’s hot. It’s humid. The air is heavy with the potential for another tropical system to come up the coast and slam into my little world. Even some of the trees are beginning to lose leaves from the heat.
And yet I am reminded that the “Dog Days” of summer take their name from the coming of the Dog Star Sirius to shine over the River Nile. Sirius heralded the flooding of the Nile basin when it appeared in the sky just before sunrise each year. The flooding of the Nile irrigated the land, allowing the fields to be ready for sowing seeds for a successful harvest in the fall.
So, even as I am uncomfortable, I cherish the knowledge that the Wheel continues to spin as it should. Like my spiraling Moon shell, Mother Earth and the Sky and all Earth’s children spiral round and round again in the great gift-giving sphere, and I trust that all will be well.
