Inspiration- March 23, 2026
We never know where the ripples will lead.
In January, I told you that my word for the year is “empty.” That word continues to bring amazing gifts, not only to me, but to others. Inspired by my writing about “empty,” and about empty bowls as a symbol, a student in one of my courses painted an empty bowl as a symbol in her life. She recently graduated from The Florence Academy of Art and sent me this picture of her work, which I include here with her permission.
Here’s what she wrote to me: “I want to share with you my still life that was my thesis project because the theme was centered around this idea of an empty bowl and a special bowl to me. This is a bowl that I got at the Goodwill and later found it to be an amazing singing bowl. During my study, I was entranced by the reflections, and that led to another whole investigation of reflection in itself— just sharing, I thought you might know how you inspired me.”
May we continue to be inspirations for each other.
By the time you read this newsletter, the vernal equinox will have occurred in the Northern Hemisphere (the autumnal equinox in the Southern). Where I live, the daffodils have bloomed, the dogwoods and azaleas are beginning to flower, and the world smells of a shrub my grandma called “Sweet Betsy.” I’m itching to get cilantro and other herbs in the dirt, but I know it’s too early. There will be another frost before Easter, as my daddy would say. He was always right.
Patience is not my strong suit.
Along with learning to be empty, to be receptive, to trust the process and divine timing, I’m being called to pay attention to synchronicities and the gifts of new people walking life’s path with me in new ways. Such is the case with new collaborations coming in teaching and writing. I’m so excited! Keep reading!
I’m so happy to connect with you, and I’m grateful that you subscribe to this newsletter! If you missed my last newsletter, you can read it here.

I’m excited to be writing for Encore’s year-long “Tides of Change” project. My work will focus on the intersections among climate change, social justice, and gentrification. I’m excited to embark on this initiative with leading scientists, educators, community activists, and others who believe deeply that we all can be a lasting hope for Mother Earth and for each other.

Best Seasonal Craft Book of 2026
Crafting the Wheel of the Year has been awarded the Best Seasonal Craft Book of 2026 by Creative Book Awards. Judge Julie Peasgood said, “A unique book, full of intriguing facts and an unconventional range of projects – including a striking take on macramé, knitting and crochet as well as crystals, charms and wreaths. I loved the spirituality that is integral to both authors: they combine an impressive knowledge of the history and customs of each season, whilst giving traditional crafts a new and magical twist.” We’re so honored!

Congratulations on your published article in Encore! I enjoyed reading it and leaned something about the history of Wilmington. I've never been to North Carolina, but your writing about Wilmington and your affection for the ocean in past reflections has piqued my curiosity.
The word "empty" has come up often these past two months as I grieve the loss of my mother and adjust to life without 24/7 caregiving. I missed my personal deadline for a March Substack publication, but am now getting my writing feet back on the ground and will have an April essay completed within a few days or so.
How am I just now discovering that you are on Substack? I think my hope level rose just seeing your name. I love your podcast psychic teachers.
