Blossoming Times - March 3, 2026
Does your life, like mine, vacillate between Tom Petty: “The waiting is the hardest part,” and Clarissa Pinkola Estes: “When it’s time, it’s time?” These are the pregnant times – the expectation, growing, blossoming times of what is to come, what is meant to be.
How do we know when to wait, when to move? We don’t know, always. Sometimes we must simply trust what is, at any given moment. Those moments of trust come, for me, when I turn to archetypes, symbols, signs, guides for clarity.
One of the most powerful archetypes in my life is The Empress of the Tarot keys. Among her many attributes, she is waiting, and trusting, personified.
In the full flower of womanhood, The Empress awaits the birth of that which has never been before. She is Earth Mother herself, pregnant with possibilities, surrounded by the ripe grains of hope and the flowing waters of promise.
The Empress is love and fertility and compassion and caring personified. This key is filled with symbols connected to Venus, the most overt of which is the heart-shaped shield of Venus in the foreground. The green cypress trees in the background are sacred to Venus, as is the wreath of myrtle which binds The Empress’s hair. (Green on this key represents fertility.) The seven pearls that adorn her neck are also sacred to Venus. (There’s more!)
The Fool’s Journey through the Major Arcana can be seen as a metaphor for our own life journeys. As The Fool meets The Empress and begins to absorb her lessons, The Fool crosses a new threshold in the pilgrimage. Her message to The Fool, and to us, is this: “As you, the seeker, travel the path to yourself, you must learn many lessons. I am always here to help you.”

Writing and Course Updates:
I’ve cowritten a play, and a staged reading was presented to a select audience recently. We’re working on updates now, with a production coming next year (fingers crossed)! I’m still writing a poem every day, working on creative nonfiction pieces, revisiting a novel in progress, and more.
I’m learning to be empty, as my word of the year suggests. I’m learning to trust this fallow time, this time of no-time, this waiting time. I hope you’ll trust it with me.
